While fellow Texan and former Rep. Beto O Rourke, D, said the state s power crisis affected a failed state due to Republican leadership, Gohmert agreed it s a failed state but for different reasons.
Dive Brief:
There will be 8.5 GW of new storage added to the U.S. grid by the end of 2021, and another 2 GW annually through 2025, according to new estimates from S&P Global Market Intelligence. Storage projects paired with renewable energy could see the strongest growth due to tax credits, falling development costs and the potential for higher gas prices.
These hybrid economics are driving new storage build into a greater proportion of markets than we d previously forecast, Steve Piper, director of energy research with S&P, said Wednesday during a presentation of the firm s Q4 Power Forecast.
The growth of new storage resources is helping to fuel the electric transition, but Piper also said that S&P expects the generation market share for zero-carbon resources to increase only marginally from 2021 to 2035, from 39% to 47%.
The Shoprite Group has indicated that it now generates enough electricity to power over 1 100 households (12 300 MWh of electricity) a year from solar energy, following the installation of rooftop PV (photovoltaic) panels at 19 sites in South Africa and Namibia.

HBS New Energies has partnered with JA Solar and GSE Integration to offer a new roof-integrated PV system to help housing developers deliver zero carbon ready homes.
Dubbed the Complete In-roof Solar solution, it can be installed with JA Solar half-cell modules from 320W up to 370W in a range of styles and configurations. HBS said the design flexibility and power output allow housebuilders to achieve energy targets with fewer modules, while saving roof space and lowering installation times.
The new partnership follows a recent update to the UK’s Future Homes Standard, which calls for new homes to meet an additional 31% carbon emissions reduction target, effective from June 2022 up to 2025.
Texans are cold and pissed. And to deflect from the deadly conditions that millions are experiencing, the state’s GOP has found a shiny new scapegoat: renewable energy.
There’s a lot of blame to go around, but Gov. Greg Abbott should remember he’s been in office for six years, said Cal Jillson, a political science professor at Southern Methodist University. During that time, the electric grid hasn’t undergone any real analysis or improvement.
“When systems come under stress, they tend to buckle, if not collapse,” Jillson said. “And that’s what happened here to the energy grid.”
